Listen To Your Body
Published: Jun 11, 2005 - 05:33 PM
Our health practice is based on a strong philosophy in natural remedies, and I have always recommended to our patients to simply listen to their bodies. In many cases the body has a way of telling us what we need. We just need to start listening.
Do you often experience a ?Jekyll and Hyde? day? If so, you could be suffering from hypoglycemia or fluctuating blood sugar. Eating small amounts of nourishing foods every few hours is best to stay alert, cooperative and happy. Supplements such as chromium and Vitamin B complex are vital in glucose and carbohydrate metabolism. Vitamin B-6 is important to adrenal gland function and conversion of glucose to energy.
Have you noticed your child likes to eat dirt? It may sound strange, but it is a common problem. If your child does this, please seek care from your holistic health care professional who will most likely give the child some supplemental minerals.
Is your family inevitably sick during the cold and flu season? Supplementing with Vitamin C and Zinc is the preferred choice during the cold season. Studies indicate Zinc may be capable of stopping a cold already in progress by actually killing the rhinovirus on contact.
If you are a woman and experience the discomfort of breast tenderness, especially near or during your menstrual cycle, supplement with Evening Primrose Oil and Vitamin E. Both have been clinically shown to resolve fibrocystic breast disease.
Another common problem is poor immune function. Many disorders can be grouped in this category. If you complain of frequent illness, fatigue, frequent yeast and fungus infections, and flatulence, I often recommend a supplement called acidophilus (Lactobacillus Acidophilus), known as bifido bacteria, normally found in health individuals.
With the widespread use of antibiotics and stress encountered on a daily basis, normal intestinal bacterial are often depleted, leading to poor health. I often recommend this supplement as part of a daily preventative regimen. There are many natural supplements and remedies as effective as over the counter and prescription drugs. Certainly, getting sick and getting some toxic drug from a medical doctor is not much help in the long run and is not cost effective. Do yourself a favor and pick up a book on vitamins at your local book store. You?ll be glad you did.
