Hi everyone,
I am 41 years old and in order to keep fit I have recently joined a walking association in Manchester. I am currently conducting some research as a lecturer at Manchester University in E-commerce. One of my lessons is the impact of women's behaviour on websites. I would like to know if women of my age and older do a walking activity to keep fit or to be with friends. Also, what is important for you in terms of walking equipment (price/quality/fashion/colour, etc). What kind of products do you buy? Recently I went on a website to buy some walking equipment and they didn't have a proper women's section, this put me off, is it the same with you? If yes what do you think a website should have/do in order to stimulate a purchase desire? Do you walk in groups or alone?
Any info will be highly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Dot! I think most women 40 plus walk for different reasons and the reason itself is less relevant than the benefit of the action, which of course is improved health. For walking to be a successful form of exercise, it needs to be done consistently. If a woman is walking for any reason besides bettering her health, she will not do it consistently because every other reason is based on emotion and we as women... (well you know). Emotion is not a very reliably reason. i.e. (I don't feel like talking to Jill today or I don't feel like seeing Michelle today or I don't feel good or I'm too tired. blah, blah, blah)Shopping, on the other hand is purely emotional. If something doesn't "grab us" we won't buy it. It doesn't matter how important it is. If it makes me feel good, I'm buying it! I would buy a treadmill if I was into walking and if I couldn't find one that suited my house, I would wait. If it was stupid looking or was offensive looking (maybe too big or too "mechanical") I would not buy it.
Walking alone is just plain stupid. Everyone knows better than that.[addsig] |

| I am 49 and walk for excercise if the weather cooperates. Walking for me is to stay in shape. I usually walk alone because it is my personal time to breathe fesh air, think and do as I please. In my case I also bike, jog and workout at the fitness center many times a week. I guess you would call me a health nut? Since I am retired it is "what I do" for a routine. I sleep, eat and think better when I walk daily. I also have a self confident feeling when I meet and converse with friends especially friends from the past like former classmates or coworkers. I recommend anyone that is able to walk on a regular basis. If your a woman I sugggest walking during daylight hours in a friendly neighborhood or with your husband or companion. It's the best thing you can do for yourself and it's pretty inexpensive. Start walking today and mark it off on your calendar so you keep it up. Nancy Bright [addsig] |
