Hi - looking for some advice from women who have found themselves in a similar situation:
I'm currently in a 5-year relationship with someone I love very much (and I'm certain the feeling/commitment is mutual). About 2 years ago, I experienced my first yeast infection at the age of 34; I've had problems with this on and off since then. Its impact on my sex life, which until then was spectacular, has been difficult to handle, in that I've very much lost my self confidence. 'Things' started to get a lot better in September 2009, but due to nervousness or who-knows-what, I experienced terrible pain during sex. I've visited a number of gynos to see if there was any underlying physical cause/s, but none of them could pinpoint anything acute. So, I would say it's my mind and my nerves getting the best of me.
On and off, we keep trying to 'get physical', but I'm extremely nervous of another bad experience and so am not seeking sexual contact like I used to, like I want to! So the big question is, how do I get my confidence back when there are no (known) underlying physical problems? I should note that I don't live in a country/region with many therapists dealing with this kind of issue, so I'd appreciate any online advice I can get...
THANKS! |

First off when you have a yeast infection your partner needs to be treated for it as well or he will reinfect you. Second, eat lots of yogurt. Yogurt has a bacteria that helps balance the bacteria in your system. The use of antibiotics, spermicides, the sponge, douches, and feminine hygiene products with fragrance can make the infection reoccur.
As for sex, use condoms and a good quality water base lubricant. And make sure he washes his hands before he touches you down there.
If you have a problem with a burning sensation at the opening of your vagina, ask your doctor to prescribe you an antifungal cream like Lamisil. This will relieve it within the first few days. This is what my doctor has prescribed me and it works. |
