I have been thinking about going off of my birth control and using an IUD. I am a little worried as to how they feel (so any users please give opinions) but my main concerns are,
1. What happens once I am ready to have a child, will that affect it at all? I have noticed one disadvantage is that a fertilized egg can be implanted in the fallopian tubes which is NOT good. Has anyone heard or had this happen and how did it affect you??
2. Can you still have rough sex, does it affect the placement, is it not safe??
and 3. Does the male feel it at all??

There is always risks when using any kind of birth control. I had a co-worker that liked it because you keep it in for up to 5 years. The downfall is the horrible pain it causes when they remove it. It's no picnic. Google IUD and there will be plenty of sites that discuss all the issues of using an IUD. This site is a quick read and answers most of your questions: http://www.womenshealthmatters.ca/centres/sex/birthcontrol/mirena.html

It's always best to talk your doctor about your concerns and maybe look at other options before deciding.

MaryJane IUD's are a good option - thus why they're becoming so popular.

1. It won't effect you when you're ready to have a child, as soon as it is removed your back to being as fertile as you were beforehand. Ectopic pregnancy is very rare, I know MANY women who use IUD's and never met one who has had this happen to them, it's rare with modern IUD's.

2. It's fine to have rough sex - it'd be pretty pointless to have a birth control that could pose a risk with any type of sex. The only thing you've got to be careful of is if you use softcups or diaphragms as menstrual cups as these can pull on the string.

3. Your partner won't feel it at all, the IUD itself is within the uterus, the only thing in the vaginal canal is the string, as long as it's cut short he shouldn't be able to feel it at all. I've had one for maybe 5 years (this is my second, I've now got the 10 year one) and none of my partners have ever felt it.

There's no reason for there to be horrible pain while inserting or removing - least of all with removal - one theory is that if you're more prone to cramps you may be more prone to discomfort with IUD insertion because you may be more sensitive to prostaglandin F2 alpha which causes cramps so if your uterus spasms this may be more painful to you. The other problem is if the professional inserting the IUD does it badly, obviously, but as they're becoming more popular this is becoming less and less of a problem.

My first IUD there was no pain what-so-ever with insertion or removal, the second IUD was only painful during insertion because the doctor used the wrong tools - the tongs were pointed, so basically she was pulling my cervix with these tongs where the points went into the cervix; basically stabbing and pulling...if it wasn't for that it'd wouldn't have hurt at all.
