The dosage is so low now a days compared to say 30 years ago, that there are little health affects comparatively. Doctors use the pill as part of treatment to get pregnant. When you are taken off the pill you become extremely fertile. The birth control pill is looked at as a preventative to ovarian cancer as well. I used the pill for over 25 years and never had a problem with it. If there was such a risk to disruption of getting or being pregnant, it would have never pass the FDA. If you are still concerned take to a health care provider. They can let you know what other alternatives are there for you and answer all your questions.

It's your body adjusting. Sometimes it takes a few months. If you had irregular periods before going on the pill, you go right back to that when you go off the pill. It doesn't mean it's caused damage to your system.

I have been on birth control for about four years now. Since I live in Illinois, I have signed up for the "Well Woman" program and I receive free birth control from Planned Parenthood. For me, the pill has helped me to have lighter periods (4 days, instead of 7 like before). I also have much less acne than I used to have.
It's also great because you will learn which specific day you will get your period each month. For example, during the last inactive week of your cycle--when you get your period, you will typically start your period on Tuesday or Wednesday. It's great for planning vacations! I've considered getting off of the pill for a while, because I'm not sexually active at this time. I haven't decided yet if I will or not. The pill is just so convenient! |

You should always stay on the pill. You stay regular and there is no danger in doing so.

I just wonder sometimes if my cycles are regular without the pill, since I've been on it for four years now. I've never had sex and am on it only for cramps and acne. I've considered getting off of it for a few months to make sure everything is okay. There's really no reason for me to be on it. I got on it before I started college thinking I might meet someone and would be prepared, but four years later and no man. So it would be a personal decision for me as to whether or not I stay on it.

My doctor told me there's no reason to go off it unless you are planning to get pregnant. They say if you go off the pill your period goes back to the way it was before.
