Heavy subject, but what are everyone’s thoughts on this. Personally I fully support gay rights and gay marriage. Recently I’ve been finding myself in heated debates about it with some people and I’m curious how others feel about the subject?

Great topic. I think prop 8 is far more complex than its often portrayed.

I'm a Californian, so I've been barraged with marketing from both sides of this issue. One thing that crossed my mind is the division between the democratic and Republican parties on this issue --

Why was this issue divided along party lines? Republican politicians disapproving and Democratic politicians supporting? Democrats are usually the ones who are faulted for giving big-brother too much power. And, strictly speaking, the Republican party discourages excessive government interference. So... shouldn't a proposition giving the government oversite to dictate a family's structure and regulate suitable marriage partners a...umm...anti-republican type of deal. Why did the party support this one and what does it say about the direction of the republican party? What does it say about the direction of us, as a country?

Question - Do we really want to set a precedent like this, giving our officials this much power over choices we make for ourselves and our families?

Wow...very strong answer mctlong, I like it. Yea... I'm all for gay marriage and gay rights. I just wish something can be done. I feel like it is so unfair that they would ban gay marriages. This whole thing reminds me of a movie though. I just can't remember the name of the movie.
