hello...

I don't know if many of you know, but sometime last week a morning radio show on a radio station in NY, yes NY! did a parody song of We are the World about the tsunami victims. The problem with this parody is that it was racist and totally void of human decency. This song referred to people who were killed by the tsunami as ch*nks and talked about parents dying and how children would be sold into slavery. Some of the lyrics are as follows:

..All at once you could hear the screaming ch*nks and no one was safe from the wave there were africans drowning, little chinamen swept away you could hear god laughing, "swim you b*tches swim"
So now you're screwed, it's the Tsunami
you better run or kiss your ass away, go find your mommy
I just saw her float by, a tree went through her head
and now the children will be sold to child slavery...

This radio program, Miss Jones in the morning, was finally suspended indefinitely yesterday. Not only did this morning show play this song repeatedly, but when one of their own crew members objected to playing the song, who happened to be asian, another memeber of the crew said to he was going to shoot all the asians. The radio station lists an official apology on their website and the whole morning crew will surrender one weeks pay which will go to tsunami relief efforts. I have to say I am outraged not only as an Asian American but also just as a human being. How could these people even think to make light of such a tremendous tragedy? A tragedy that has claimed over 200,000 lives? Not to mention, how many more people will die because of the conditions the tsunami left them in? People lost everything in the blink of an eye! Asians weren't the only ones to suffer from this tragedy, people from all over the world lost loved ones.

This post is simply to raise awareness, put leave a comment if you want. Knowledge is power. If you are moved in anyway by this nonsense and would like to see how you can help, go to my hiphopmusic link. They list ways you can let your voice be heard.

Changes can come from the power of many but only when the many come together to form that which is invincible...the power of one. [addsig]
