Following on from my previous post -
I heard some really interesting opinions about Menstrual Cups from ladies within this forum, some good and some bad. It is clearly a matter of preference.
After several hours of further research, I ordered a Femmecup, which I began using last month, and I have to say - I absolutely love it!
Until now I had used tampons for over 15 years, now I am using this cup, I will never look back.
As a first time user, I would love to discuss the benefits with any one else considering switching to a cup. I know from experience that the experiences of a new user are good to know when considering making the switch.
Have a good day all

Hi Pat,
I actually know very little about menstrual cups so I hope you can share a little about why you like it so much. My impression of them is that they might potentially be uncomfortable and also be a little messy. Do you find either of these things to be a problem? Also, why bother to switch from tampons in the first place?
thanks!

| I find tampons more sanitary because of the applicator (cardboard, not plastic)......that's a reason why I don't like using OB tampons. On the other hand if you are conscientious about the environment the cup makes sense. There's no waste. |

Hi Beth,
Like anything new, it took some getting used to but now I have been using my cup for a while, I find it more comfortable than a tampon.
I switched to Femmecup for a number of reasons:
1. After reading several cases of Toxic Shock Syndrome in the past, I was concerned about the health issues of using a tampon
2. By switching to a cup I could save up to 97% on my spending on sanitary products
3. As a bit of a 'greeny', I like the fact I am doing a little extra to help the environment

| I've heard so many good things about them, it just seems so gross that it's called a "cup"! |

Another happy cup user here, I've been a cup user for nearly 10 years now - LOVE THEM! I'd NEVER even consider going back to tampons or pads, it changes how you feel about your periods.
I use Ladycup http://www.ladycup.eu and Mooncup http://www.mooncup.co.uk/wc.php?u=1741
No risk of TSS, vaginal infections, increased cramps (cups can lessen or prevent cramps all together) or potential long-term risks from dioxin and chemicals within commercial tampons.
They're more convenient as they can be worn for 12 hours (twice as long as tampons), with any flow, overnight, before your period, and no need to alternate with pads, none of which can be done safely with tampons.
They don't leak like tampons or pads either so more reliable - they're a total must for women like me with very heavy flow as no need to change constantly and no mess from leaking, so I can actually leave the house without fear of a sudden gush from leaking!
They're also easier to use, less fuss, cheaper, more comfortable, greener (both in reducing waste and harmful manufacturing), companies are ethical, they're body-positive, support small women-run businesses, helps you learn about your body, helps you monitor flow, more hygienic/sanitary, and healthier.
Nothing wrong with inserting your fingers into your own vagina - it's yours, and it's cleaner than your mouth - if a person doesn't want to insert their fingers then fine, but nothing at all gross about doing so or those who do! |
